Tone

Choose a starting tone, adjust it, and save a sound you want to use again.

Start from a preset

Afinar includes eight starting tones: Clean guitar, Driven guitar, Clean bass, Driven bass, Voice, Strings, Keys, and Direct. Choose one from the tone menu. Direct is a starting tone too; it is not a guarantee that every processing unit is bypassed.

The tone display in the recording tray shows your current tone and its effects.

Edit the tone

Open the tone editor from the tone readout. The rack can contain a compressor, noise gate, amp, EQ, delay, and reverb. Adjust a unit or remove it from the chain.

  • ·A block is in the signal or out, the ACTIVE switch. Bypassing a unit keeps its settings without applying that effect.
  • ·Click any block to open its controls. Adjusting a bypassed effect turns it on.
  • ·Drag blocks to reorder them. The order you see is the order the signal runs.
  • ·Fine level control lives behind Levels; adjust it if a capture sounds too quiet or too loud.

Amps are captures

Use the amp controls to import your own compatible .nam files from your Mac. Afinar supports earlier NAM captures and the new A2 standard. Choose a file, load it, and play through it with your music.

Afinar plays complete rigs: the amp and the speaker captured together. A capture of an amp on its own, or of a pedal, is refused when you load it, and the app says which it was. Choose files described as Amp + Cab or a complete rig. The same requirement applies to A2 captures; amp-only captures, pedal captures, and separate cabinet IRs are not supported.

Saving your tones

When you change a preset, EDITED appears beside its name. SAVE keeps your changes to your own tone; SAVE AS saves a copy under a new name, including when you start from a factory preset. Clear tone takes you back to Direct.

Each song remembers its tone

Each score restores the tone you last used with it.

The noise gate

The noise gate is a unit inside the tone rack and is included by default. Adjust its threshold there, or remove the unit from the tone. There is no separate noise-gate switch in the recorder rail.

Change a saved take’s tone

A take keeps your recorded tone and unprocessed instrument signal. ToneSwap lets you try a different amp and effects on the same performance. See Listen back.
