Recording and takes

Start and stop a take, then return to it from the song you played.

Takes stay with the song

A take is saved with the score or web page you record from. Open that score to find its dated, numbered takes.

If you hit record on a web page you haven’t saved to your scores yet, Afinar offers Add & Record: one click saves the page as a score and starts the take.

What a take records

Afinar records your instrument and the music separately, using your setup’s timing measurement to align them for playback.

Afinar also keeps your unprocessed instrument signal. ToneSwap lets you try another amp or effects on the same performance. See Listen back.

Starting and stopping

Press R or the Record button before you play. Recording starts immediately, or after your count-in. On a web page, start the site’s player. For an imported score, use the attached music; its count-in control is in the recording section.

Press the Stop button or R to finish the take. Afinar does not stop recording just because the music has ended.

The takes list

The takes list shows the take number, duration, recorded tone, and date. Select a take to listen back. Use the keeper star during playback to mark one you want to return to.

Find your take files

Open Settings (⌘,) and choose Reveal in Finder to locate your takes. For information about data handling, read the privacy page.
