Built around the way I practice.

I grew up playing cello, studying at the Escuela Libre de Música in San Juan and the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico. I later spent about ten years in the audio industry before starting businesses of my own. Music moved to the background for a while.

A few years ago I picked up the bass. First new instrument since I was a child.

Learning bass as an adult meant bringing together a lesson video, a tab site, a PDF, and the song I wanted to play. Before each practice, I had to set it all up again.

The part I kept skipping was recording. My years in audio had taught me how useful it is to listen back, but setting up a separate recording session got in the way of actually practicing.

I wanted the score, the song, my sound, and the recorder in one window. Press Record, play, stop, and find the take with the song. That became Afinar.

Afinar is my fourth company. I built it for my own practice, and I use it every night.
